Macquarie Island expedition uncovers link between the Southern Hemisphere westerly winds and carbon dioxide levels

Strong westerly winds weaken the Southern Ocean’s ability to store carbon and thereby contribute to faster accumulation of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, according to a new study published today in the prestigious journal Nature Geoscience.

Deuteration of biopolymers in bionanocomposites

Carbon nanotubes have been incorporated into a blend of deuterated biopolymers, allowing for electrical conductivity of the polymer film. These polymers have potential implications as scaffolds supporting regrowth of damaged tissues and electrical conductivity can promote the re-growth of nerve cells on similar materials.
