As stated in an earlier media interview today, during a handling operation in ANSTO’s isotope production area on 19 April, a sealed radiography source dislodged from its radiation shielding container.
The area was promptly attended by relevant ANSTO safety staff and the source was quickly recovered. There was no potential for any off-site consequences and no injury to any staff.
This type of radiography source, which is physically about 2mm diameter by 2mm long, is used for applications such as examining the integrity of pipeline welds.
