Research in Australia and France will receive a boost today with the launch of an exciting bilateral scholarship.
The Ambassador of France to Australia, His Excellency Mr Stéphane Romatet visited ANSTO to sign an agreement with Dr Adi Paterson, ANSTO’s CEO. The result will be a scholarship between ANSTO and the French Embassy, known as the Scholarship ANSTO - French Embassy or SAFE program.
Dr Paterson welcomed the new agreement. “This agreement will not only create fantastic opportunities for scholarship holders, but is of strategic importance, and will also strengthen our collaborations with research organisations in France,” said Dr Paterson.
His Excellency Mr Romatet said the agreement reflects the high priority France is placing on international scientific and research cooperation.
“Australia and France are both leaders in science excellence and I believe that this scholarship will provide a valuable opportunity to advance research in both countries” says His Excellency Mr Romatet.
ANSTO’s Head of Life Sciences, Dr Marie-Claude Grégoire said the agreement expands on ANSTO work in Life Sciences, bringing together the expertise of French and Australian researchers into areas of medical imaging.
The merit-based scholarship will facilitate exchanges between Australian and French students and researchers in life sciences, including medical research. Young Australian researchers will travel and study with leading French research institutes and universities and French students and researchers will equally have the opportunity to work with world-class researchers at the ANSTO laboratories.
The SAFE program is administered by ANSTO and candidates are selected by a joint committee involving ANSTO and the Embassy of France.
