As a major Shire employer and one of the country’s largest environmental research centres, it should be no surprise ANSTO was front and centre in local Clean Up Australia Day efforts today.

A dozen ANSTO staff joined with the students from the Southern Cross Baptist Church Christian School, to help clean up Anzac Oval and surrounds in Engadine, ahead of Clean Up Australia Day this Sunday.

Jo Gates works in ANSTO’s communications division, lives locally in Caringbah area, and was one of the staff on hand to help out today.

“ANSTO is well and truly part of the Shire, with around a third of our staff living in the area and sixty years’ worth of proud history in environmental and medical research,” said Ms Gates.

“This is about rolling up our sleeves and helping a local school and our local community make some of our local areas even cleaner and greener, and we’re happy to play our part.

“We’re big fans of the environment here at ANSTO – where we use our cutting edge science infrastructure to answer some of the country’s big environmental questions.

“This year in particular, we have some fantastic things on the horizon in the environmental sphere, building on our air monitoring, water analysis, carbon dating and climate monitoring expertise.

“We’re so proud of our work, of our organisation, and to be a part of the local community.”
