New GM for ANSTO radiopharmaceuticals

ANSTO officially announced today that Mr Ian Turner is to be the new General Manager for Radiopharmaceuticals and Industrials, the commercial arm of the organisation’s radioisotope production business.

ANSTO Executive Director, Dr Ian Smith, said Mr Turner has key experience in the commercialisation of research outcomes. He has also managed sales and exports for various medical instrumentation products with multi-million dollar budgets and revenue streams exceeding $100 million.

"Until recently, Mr Turner was the Global HPLC2 Business Manager for a major scientific instrumentation organisation, Varian Inc.,” said Dr Smith. “He developed vital skills in international marketing while working in the United States for Varian as its Director of Strategic Projects, and earlier as its Global Sales and Marketing Manager for the NMR/MRI3 business.

"We are very excited about Ian's arrival and believe he will bring a fresh new approach, this being especially appropriate as a new management style and structure is being introduced to the organisation.

"Ian will take a leadership role in developing and implementing a new vision for radiopharmaceuticals and industrial isotope manufacture, ensuring quality products are delivered in an efficient and timely manner," continued Dr Smith.

"He will also focus on guaranteeing all internal and external stakeholder requirements are met.”

A key aspect of the position is to derive value from scientific and technological innovation, and Mr Turner met the criteria perfectly.

"Ian is also an established scientist in engineering research and his internationally recognised record of research accomplishment is impressive,” said Dr Smith. “He therefore not only brings commercial savvy to the job, but an understanding of what it is like to work in a scientific environment.

"We are very pleased to welcome Ian to ANSTO and believe his experience will ensure we meet the objectives set for radiopharmaceutical and radiochemical development.”
