Australian Synchrotron New User Symposium and User meeting

User Meeting 2014 showcases the best research undertaken at the Australian Synchrotron, and provides updates on the latest technique and applications developments, both here and at their sister light sources overseas.

Synchrotron symposium
This year’s program includes sessions on Advanced Materials, Earth and Environment, Biological Systems and Surface Science. Users of the future are encouraged to enter the exciting new Poster Slam session, where each student has one minute only to “sell their science” to the judges.

Plenary speakers anticipated for 2014 include:

  • Prof Harald Ade, Department of Physics, North Carolina State University, USA
  • Dr Bruce Ravel, Materials Measurement Laboratory, National Institute of Standards and Technology, USA
  • Dr Daniela Stock, Structural Biology Laboratory, Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute, Australia

For the first time, New User Symposium 2014 will be held immediately prior to the User Meeting.

This one day symposium is aimed at novice users wishing to learn more about how synchrotron, accelerator and neutron based techniques can benefit their research.

The symposium will illustrate the potential of these techniques using applications drawn from diverse research areas, including advanced materials, biomedical applications and environmental science. Information will also be provided on how to apply for experiment time at the Australian Synchrotron, the Bragg Institute (including the OPAL neutron beam facility), and support available.

A limited number of free places are available to delegates from sponsoring institutions. A limited amount of travel support is also available to students from AINSE member institutes.
