Can you imagine food packaging that tells you how fresh and nutritious the contents are in real time? Or food packages that talk to your microwave? What about the bottle of pills that notifies the doctor if you forget to take your medication?
Welcome to the world of smart food packaging, the new frontier coming soon to a shopping centre near you.
Dr Ross Lee, an international expert on the subject of interactive technologies in food packaging will make a presentation to the Neutrons and Food Workshop in Sydney today.
The Workshop is organised by the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO).
Dr Lee will discuss the latest scientific breakthroughs in the field and how neutrons could be used to better understand materials that can be used for packaging.
Researchers at the conference will also discuss how neutron scattering can be used to enhance food safety and quality.
Dr Lee is Senior Business Associate with Packaging & Technology Integrated Solutions and an Adjunct Professor at Villanova University. The Neutrons and Food workshop continues until Wednesday 3 November 2010 at the Amora Hotel Jamison in Sydney.
