The largest single component on any of our instruments, the 20-m long, 2.5-m diameter vacuum vessel for the state-of-the-art small-angle neutron-scattering instrument QUOKKA was delivered today.
The vessel is shown leaving the manufacturer's site in Melbourne (above left) and in place in the OPAL neutron guide hall (above right).
In addition, the front-end optics (below) for the PLATYPUS reflectometer has been delivered, installed and aligned by Swiss Neutronics. Three of the four optical elements, for unpolarised applications, including free liquids, are shown with the fourth polarising element to be added later.
