Measuring radiation

Nearly everything in the world is radioactive - the ground we walk on, the gases in the air, and even the food we eat. Scientists have known about the energy emitted from radioactive materials for more than 100 years, but finding the best ways to measure it is still a matter for debate.

The public is invited to hear a talk on the subject by one of the world’s pre-eminent experts in radiation detection, Professor David Wehe from the University of Michigan.

Professor Wehe will discuss how the detection of radiation has evolved over several decades from simple observations to precise measurements including a discussion of how socio-political factors are steering United States research and development in radiation detection into new areas.
