More than 30 ANSTO employees have entered to compete in the annual Sutherland2Surf event this weekend, helping to raise money for this important event.

Often used as a preparation course for the City2Surf, the Sutherland2Surf is an 11km fun run that takes participants through the beautiful Sutherland Shire.
“The Sutherland2Surf is a great community event, and we’re pleased to be sponsoring it again this year,” said local resident, runner and ANSTO employee, Catherine Kelleher.
“This is a great way that we give back to the local community, as well as help raise funds for charity.”
ANSTO is Australia’s home of nuclear medicine, distributing thousands of doses to medical facilities across the country for use in diagnosis and treatment of cancers and other conditions.
Early work is underway on the $168 million ANSTO Nuclear Medicine facility, though which Australia will significantly increase production of the nuclear medicine molybdenum-99 (Mo-99), helping to meet world demand with medicine created from Low Enriched Uranium.
ANSTO’s LifeSciences division also helps researchers to understand chronic diseases including stroke, brain inflammation and epilepsy.
In addition to having many staff members participate, ANSTO is amongst the major local employers who are sponsoring the event this year.
“ANSTO’s strong community base and strong work to support cancer patients made the decision to sponsor the Sutherland2Surf this year an easy one,” said Ms Kelleher.
The Sutherland2Surf commenced in 1975, and each year sees more than 7000 runners and walkers participating.
