Community discussion on radioactive management

ANSTO is inviting its local community to share their views with the organisation about its radioactive waste management at the next independently facilitated Community Discussion, to be held at 5.45 (for a 6.15pm start) on Wednesday 16 March 2004 at Club Menai, 44-60 Alison Crescent, Menai.

“This discussion will provide an opportunity for ANSTO to listen to the community, present information and answer community questions on the subject of radioactive waste management at ANSTO and other topics of interest to the community,” said ANSTO Chief of Operations, Dr Ron Cameron.

“Market research has identified that local residents would like to know more about ANSTO operations and its science,” Dr Cameron continued. “The Community Discussions are one of the means we are implementing to address this.”

Sutherland Shire Councillor David Redmond said he supported the community initiative and encouraged attendance.

“I believe this kind of open communication between ANSTO and the community is a good way to help us understand the issues that we may have questions about, such as how radioactive waste is managed,” said Mr Redmond.

“ANTO is showing a strong commitment to ensuring open and ongoing dialogue with our community, which should be encouraged.

“If people attend they will learn more about what ANSTO does, and can help others in turn understand the issues by telling them about what was discussed.

“I encourage anyone interested in ANSTO, its science and the industries it deals with to come along.”

A presentation will be given by the Head of Waste Operations, Mr Lubi Dimitrovski, followed by questions from the audience to Mr Dimitrovski and other ANSTO representatives.
