Over the next week, ANSTO is hosting the International Conference on Polarised Neutrons for Condensed-Matter Investigations (PNCMI 2014), in Sydney. Around 65 attendees are coming from 28 universities and research institutions in 13 different countries.
The meeting is being held with Trevor Hicks (Monash University) as Honorary Chair. Trevor was one of the pioneers of the polarisation-analysis method at ANSTO's old HIFAR Reactor, particularly using the LONGPOL instrument.
But things have moved on a long way since then, particularly at OPAL, where we now have polarised neutrons and polarisation analysis available on 6 instruments.
