First SANS pattern from Bilby

First SANS pattern on Bilby news image

Today, our new BILBY time-of-flight small-angle neutron scattering instrument recorded its first SANS pattern, in this case from a silver behenate standard.

Time-of-flight data were taken between 2Å and 20Å, but here we show a time-slice of 5 ± 1Å, with a wavelength resolution of ~17%.  The detector was at its closest setting of 1m from the sample position.

Congratulations to Anna Sokolova, who has led the BILBY project since its inception, and the large number of other team members who have contributed to achieving this important milestone.

The construction of BILBY was funded in 2009, by the Commonwealth Government's Super-Science Initiative.
