Celebrate Australia’s proud scientific past and be one of a limited number of people to see inside Australia’s first nuclear research reactor, HIFAR.
This national scientific treasure operated for nearly 50 years from 1958 and made a significant contribution to Australian society through the production of nuclear medicine and the advancement of scientific knowledge.
During this rare and limited opportunity, you will go inside the reactor building and view the control room where reactor operators monitored and controlled this national facility.
As part of the tour, you’ll also visit the new, state-of-the-art OPAL research reactor and its adjacent neutron beam guide hall and learn how this modern scientific infrastructure is benefiting all Australians.
