Nuclear technology: we simply cant live without it

It has happened to your newspaper its happened to your computer parts and it may have even happened to your local street quite simply the applications of nuclear and associated technologies affect each and every one of us on a daily basis.

This is the focus of ANSTOs enlightening display at Canberras National Convention Centre as part of the Amazing World of Science Exhibition from Wednesday 21 to Sunday 25 August. The exhibition will be one of the major events being held as part of 2002 Science Week.

Newspapers, household smoke detectors, roads and silicon computer chips are just a few of the everyday items that are tested or improved thanks to a range of nuclear technologies. Additionally, the medical applications of the technology are providing benefits to some 500,000 Australians each year.

ANSTO will introduce a "typical" family, the Daleys, to illustrate the everyday nuclear benefits delivered to Australians. Like all of us, over a period of 24 hours, the Daleys are impacted in many activities that are interwoven with nuclear technology. The exhibition is designed to remind us about how applications of nuclear technology – ranging from the mundane to the potentially life-saving add value to our lives.

The Exhibition will be open from 9 am to 4 pm weekdays and 9 am to 5 pm on the weekend at the National Convention Centre, 31 Constitution Avenue, Civic. Festival Exhibition Page
