Science meets art this August at the Hazelhurst Regional Gallery and Arts Centre Neural Knitworks exhibition.
The knitted neurons will all join together to create a textile brain installation that will educate the community on the amazing world of neuroscience through fun hands-on activities. This may just be the largest knitted brain ever seen.
The exhibition is promoting brain health in collaboration with ANSTO, as well as the Brain and Mind Research Institute, the Society for Brain Mapping & Therapeutics and the Centre for Healthy Brain Aging and Alzheimer’s Australia Dementia Research Foundation. The neurons are not just works of art, the patterns are based off real neural images provided by Dr Louise Cole and Charean Adams of the Bosch Institute.
Exercise your brain by knitting another. You can try your hand at knitting neurons too. Patterns are available here and entries need to be in by the 21st of July for inclusion in the exhibition. Not so good at knitting? The pattern includes an easy ‘No-Knit Neuron’.
