The Joint Parliamentary Public Works Committee is holding a public hearing at ANSTO today to discuss construction proposals for an extension to ANSTO’s radiopharmaceuticals production facility and a new main entrance.
In August, the Committee placed advertisements about the hearings in the Sydney Morning Herald and the Australian and one submission was received from the general public.
The extension to the radiopharmaceuticals production facility will be completely funded by ANSTO. It will allow ANSTO to provide improved efficiency and state-of-the art working conditions to meet the 10 per cent annual production increase anticipated over the next few years. The project is scheduled for completion by late 2005.
ANSTO supplies over 70% of the radioisotopes used in Australian nuclear medicine procedures.
Funding for the main entrance has already been provided by the Federal Government. The project will allow for more efficient traffic control from New Illawarra Road whilst complying with the latest requirements for security at ANSTO. This project is also due for completion by the end of 2005.
*ANSTO is the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation.
