Today is Prof Don Kearley’s last day at the Bragg Institute. Don spent the first four years as the Research Leader for Hard Condensed Matter at the Bragg Institute, then eased towards retirement working three days per week in the last four years in a purely research role.
He was very well respected in the management role, during which he set up modelling and the local high-performance computer cluster, initiated the Energy Materials Project, significantly increased the number of thesis students associated with the Bragg Institute, and continually worked towards improving interpersonal relationships within the Bragg Institute.
His leadership and advice on modelling has firmly established the Computing Cluster as a virtual instrument on a par with the neutron-beam instruments.
Don's expertise and counsel will be sorely missed, but we wish him all the best in retirement.
