To celebrate National Heritage Week 11-19 April, ANSTO invites you to step inside Australia’s proud scientific past on a tour of Australia’s first nuclear reactor, HIFAR.
One of Australia’s great technological achievements, for nearly 50 years HIFAR significantly contributed to Australian society through nuclear medicine production and the advancement of scientific knowledge.
After entering the building through a special airlock entrance, you will see the instruments used by research scientists and the control room where reactor operators monitored and controlled all operations.
You will also visit OPAL, the new state-of-the-art research reactor and its neutron beam guide hall, where you will learn how this modern scientific infrastructure is benefiting all Australians.
The two part tour will provide a picture of the amazing advances that have been made in nuclear science and technology, and an insight of what might be possible through nuclear science in the future.
