Now in its 11th year, the Canberra event is aimed at promoting an awareness of some of the amazing research being carried out by some of Australia's best science minds.
The two-day event will enable a meeting of the minds to discuss the latest news and issues affecting science and its related issues.
ANSTO scientists will have the opportunity to showcase their work into areas as diverse as climate change, agriculture, renewable and low carbon energy alternatives, obesity and human nutrition.
Australia's Chief Scientist Professor Ian Chubb, will also address the the National Press Club today, with ANSTO’s Distinguished Research Fellow, Professor Richard Banati offering the introductory speech.
Science meets Parliament was established in 1999 to give scientists opportunities to witness decision-making first hand, and to inform this process on important scientific issues.
The aim of the event is to stimulate and inform Parliament's discussion of scientific issues that underpin the economic, social and environmental well-being of the nation.
A by-product of this is that it provides scientists with unique professional development opportunities to get a clear sense of the competing rationalities of science, politics and public policy.
It also provides politicians with an opportunity to meet and hear from some of the nation’s brightest minds across a wide range of scientific disciplines.
