In the last week, and as part of its "hot commissioning" process, our new KOOKABURRA Bonse-Hart-type Ultra-Small-Angle-Neutron-Scattering (USANS) instrument has taken its first scattering data from a suspension of standard latex spheres, in a water:heavy-water solution.
The 5-bounce silicon (111) crystals were used at a wavelength of 4.74 Å, and standard polystyrene spheres have a diameter of 5 microns. We have yet to install all of the background-reducing shielding around the analysers, so we expect to achieve substantial improvements in the near future.
