For parents at their wits’ end trying to find something different and educational for the kids these school holidays, let ANSTO cure the boredom with rocket science.
ANSTO is calling all science buffs and future astronauts from 8 to 14 to design and launch your very own water rocket. Using a 1.25 litre bottle, water and compressed air, you can watch your creation head off into the sky with prizes for the rocket with the longest ’hang’ time. Along the way, listen to scientists explain some of the theory of rocket science as well as finding out about ANSTO’s plans for an Australian Centre for Accelerator Science (ACAS).
If a water rocket doesn’t take your fancy, then a tour of Australia’s only research reactor is sure to impress. Running morning and afternoon during the April school holidays, the ever popular “Up and Atom Science Tour” gives kids and adults the opportunity to see up close some of the world’s most advanced scientific equipment and learn about the relationship between nuclear science, life-saving medicine, climate change and water management.
