Whether it's learning about splitting the atom, launching a water rocket or the chemistry of cosmetics, there's plenty of scientific fun for kids big and small at ANSTO this summer.
The “Up and Atom” science tour
Running Monday to Saturday, this tour provides a behind-the-scenes look at one of the country’s largest science organisations.
Visitors see Australia’s only research reactor, the state-of-the-art neutron beam instruments and particle accelerators while finding out how science tools are helping to address health and climate change issues and develop new innovations to support Australian industry.
Suitable for budding scientists aged 8 to 88, the ‘Up and Atom’ tour offers a rare glimpse inside the realm of some of Australia’s leading scientists.
Water Rockets Workshop for Kids: sold out
Do you have “The Right Stuff” to design and launch your very own rocket? Can water ACTUALLY be used as rocket fuel? Find out at our summer workshop.
Learn how rockets fly, the importance of aerodynamics, how water can be used as a power source, and then build, decorate and launch your own from our flight testing site.
With the right weather conditions these simple rockets can travel 100m into the air!
Even if you’ve done this before, come again – we’ve added some cool new stuff with parachutes and paper-planes.
Prizes will be awarded for the highest, longest and best decorated rocket.
Workshops run each day from Monday 13th January to Friday 17th January, at 10am.
Cost is $10 per child with accompanying adults free.
Cosmetic Chemistry Workshop for Kids
Combine beauty and science and what do you get - Cosmetic Chemistry!
In this workshop, you will transform everyday household ingredients such as carb soda, cocoa butter, wax etc. to make several cosmetic items.
Participants have the chance to get hands-on and make their own items such as bath bombs or, for something more glamorous, some lip balm, all whilst learning fundamental chemistry.
Keep it for yourselves or add some wrapping paper and you will have the perfect gift for that someone special.
Workshops run at 9am, 11am and 2pm on Wednesday 22nd January and Thursday 23rd January Cost is $10 per child with accompanying adults free.
