School’s out but science is in – with ANSTO’s very popular science education workshops to run next week.
If you’re looking for fun, affordable and educational school holiday activities for your kids look no further than ANSTO’s Cosmetic Chemistry workshops on 22 and 23 January.
At each of the six workshops, around 24 kids aged 8 – 14 will learn how to transform everyday ingredients such as carb soda, cocoa butter and wax into beautiful handmade soap, bath fizzes, lip balm and lip gloss, all whilst learning the fundamentals of chemistry.
ANSTO’s CEO, Dr Adi Paterson, said the workshops are popular because parents recognise the value of learning-based activities.
“These workshops are a really fun way of getting kids interested in science from a young age,” Dr Paterson said.
“ANSTO is an international centre of excellence for science, so it’s wonderful to be able to run these fun, educational workshops for younger children, and to introduce them to science concepts.
“Science is such an important part of all of our lives, including chemistry which impacts everything from food manufacturing to the mining industry, and many other ways people may not realise.
“The workshops enable children to get creative and experiment with ingredients, but most importantly, they will leave with a greater understanding of some basic scientific concepts.”
A total of six, 90-minute workshops will run at ANSTO’s Discovery Centre at Lucas Heights, at 9am, 11am and 2pm on both Wednesday 22 January and Thursday 23 January 2014.
The workshops are open to children aged between 8 and 14 years, and the cost is $10 per child, with accompanying adults free. Bookings are essential as places are limited.
