You knew the humble 1.25 litre Coke bottle could be recycled, but you probably didn’t know that it can be turned into an amazing handmade water rocket.

Sound like a concept your kids might be interested in? Well there are still a few places left in next week’s Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO) science workshops.

Up to 120 children aged 8 – 14 will descend on the ANSTO Discovery Centre at Lucas Heights next week, for a science lesson that’s super charged with fun!

The completed water rockets can propel themselves many metres into the air.

“These classes show kids from all over Sydney that science is interesting and its applications can be fun,” said Rod Dowler from ANSTO’s Discovery Centre.

“ANSTO is a world-class centre of science with hundreds of scientists working on environmental research, medicine production and developing solutions and partnerships with industry.

“We’re excited about science and our education officers are keen to share their love of science with Sydney’s kids.

“A lesson in water rockets is actually a lesson in basic physics, chemistry and aerodynamics, so those who come along will learn something whilst they figure out how to propel their rocket high into the sky!”

The workshops last 90 minutes, and will be held from 10am every day from Monday 13 – Friday 17 January. Bookings are essential, tickets cost $10 and there are limited places left.
