In the National Innovation and Science Agenda, the Government made a commitment to develop a Roadmap that will outline Australia’s priority research infrastructure needs over the next ten years.

The Australian Government commissioned the 2016 National Research Infrastructure Roadmap to support future investment decisions in research infrastructure. It will ensure Australian researchers can continue to access world-class major national research infrastructure.

The Roadmap sets out Australia’s national research infrastructure priority areas for the coming decade. These priorities will support areas of research, science and innovation in areas where Australia excels, and can deliver the greatest long-term national benefit and foster strategic international partnerships.

The Chief Scientist for Australia, Dr Alan Finkel AO, is leading the development of the 2016 Roadmap. Dr Finkel is supported by an Expert Working Group (EWG) comprising eminent Australians with experience and knowledge of the research and innovation system. ANSTO’s CEO Dr Adi Paterson is a member of the group.

The EWG conducted extensive consultations with stakeholders including the research community, universities, state, territory and federal government agencies, publicly funded research agencies, industry and operators of research infrastructure facilities in developing its recommendations.

The EWG wants Stakeholder feedback on the Draft 2016 Roadmap before a final 2016 Roadmap is provided to Government. The EWG is particularly interested in views on the Key Recommendations and the Infrastructure Focus Areas and associated priorities.
