It’s dubbed the ‘Oscars of Australian Science’ and this year ANSTO will be an integral part to the 2011 Australian Museum Eureka Prizes. For the first time ever, ANSTO will sponsor the award category, the ‘Eureka Prize for Innovative Use of Technology.’
$10,000 will be up for grabs for the individual or organisation that demonstrates the best new way of using technology to improve research outcomes. Whether it’s making breakthroughs in medical industries or pioneering new developments in engineering, the field is wide open for smart thinking.
ANSTO CEO, Dr Adi Paterson said this award highlights how “the innovative application of technology forms a new way of viewing a problem that can lead to significant scientific breakthroughs.
ANSTO is at the forefront of applying nuclear technology and techniques to a diverse range of scientific problems including climate change, health and materials engineering. So it is quite fitting that our organisation gets behind sponsoring a tremendous award like this."
“We have many great scientists at ANSTO and Australia-wide who are among the best in their field in the world. By recognising and rewarding these great thinkers we can continue to foster new breakthroughs in science and technology that has tremendous benefit to all Australians,” Dr Paterson said.
Entries for this award and other Eureka Prizes open Friday 4th February and must be submitted by midnight AEST Friday 6th May, 2011. Winners will be announced at the Eureka Prizes on 6th September, 2011.
The Eureka Prizes are awarded annually by the Australian Museum and recognise excellence in many fields including scientific research and innovation. It is a highly competitive competition with 24 prizes awarded in four categories - Research & Innovation, Leadership, School Science and Science Journalism and Communication.
