High density concrete poured on Mo-99 hot cells

The ANSTO Nuclear Medicine (ANM) project reached a significant milestone recently with the first pour of high density concrete to shield hot cells used in the production of  Molybdenum-99 (Mo-99). With a density greater than 3,600kg/m3, this heavyweight concrete will surround the hot cells providing appropriate radiation shielding.

As of 30 November 2015, the progress on construction included:

Over 769 tonnes of steel reinforcement in place
In excess of 101 tonnes of structural steel installed
More than 4292m3 of concrete poured
Over 202m3 of high density concrete poured

Watch the time-lapse video below showing the progress on construction of the Mo-99 production hot cells.
