Documentary on Australia's first reactor to be launched

Next week, a special documentary to commemorate the achievements of Australia’s first nuclear reactor, HIFAR, will be launched by ANSTO at the Powerhouse Museum. HIFAR staff and clients, both past and present, will be in attendance.

HIFAR has served the Australian community well for nearly fifty years.

Dr Ian Smith, ANSTO Executive Director, said the documentary is an important way of retaining some of the memories and experiences of HIFAR staff, as well recording key historical moments of the reactor.

“HIFAR has served the Australian community well for nearly fifty years, supplying life saving radiopharmaceuticals and making a significant contribution to industry and science,” he said. “It is fitting that it is commemorated in this way.”

Guests at the event will get their final opportunity to farewell and celebrate a reactor which has now become a part of Australian history.
