Beauty in science

Beauty and science joined forces these school holidays. Equipped with a few simple ingredients, kids can transform every-day household items like bicarbonate soda and water into a bath fizzer. Or for a more glamorous touch, some bees wax and cocoa butter can be used to make an all-natural lip gloss.

It is ANSTO’s first Cosmetic Chemistry workshop for children between the ages of 8 to 14 years.

Charlotte and Bridget Mansfield from Engadine have already been busy at ANSTO making their own cosmetics.

”We had so much fun making our own soaps and bath fizzers. Now we’ve got great gifts to give away at Christmas and we get to have a cool spa day with some friends!”

These activities are a great way to demonstrate that science is fun and plays a significant role in all of our lives.
