This morning, both the OPAL Reactor and its Cold Neutron Source returned to service. The latter had been out of commission since 26 March 2010, following an unexpected compressor failure.
Our QUOKKA small-angle neutron scattering instrument and PLATYPUS neutron reflectometer, both of which view the cold source, can also now resume full user operations.
We apologise to those users who were scheduled in the last 6 weeks, and who have not been able to do their experiments. These approved experiments will now be rescheduled.
The schedules for OPAL and all the neutron beam instruments can be seen on our website.
