ANSTO welcomes Minister's announcement of new Board appointments

ANSTO’s continual delivery of excellence in the field of nuclear science and technology is assured with the appointment of Professor Paul Greenfield AO as Chair of the organisation’s board.

In making the announcement today, Innovation Minister, Senator Kim Carr said, “Professor Greenfield’s experience on the ANSTO board since 2007 and his skills in science and senior management has made him an outstanding candidate for this position.”

Public Service Medal recipient, Mr John Ryan has also been appointed to the board. Mr Ryan has a solid career in the public sector and has been involved in several roles including Deputy Secretary of the Department of Resources, Energy and Tourism as well as playing a major part in the Prime Minister’s 2006 Taskforce into Development of Uranium Mining and Nuclear Energy in Australia.

ANSTO CEO, Dr Adi Paterson has welcomed the appointments and said the pair will ensure efficient and strong management will continue within the organisation.

“I would like to congratulate Professor Greenfield and Mr Ryan on their appointments. Professor Greenfield has been a tremendous asset to the board and I am thrilled he will continue on as board Chair,” Dr Paterson said.

“His high level of expertise across a range of fields like education, environmental management and economics will help guide ANSTO as it progresses on track to be an international centre of excellence in the field of nuclear science.

“Additionally, we are extremely lucky to have Mr Ryan on the board who will bring sound advice and knowledge that will ultimately inform the future direction of ANSTO.”

Dr Ziggy Switkowski vacated the chair position on 31 December 2010 when his term finished.

“Dr Switkowski was a remarkable leader, providing invaluable advice to me personally and the organisation. We are truly grateful for Dr Switkowski’s tireless efforts in providing clear and unwavering leadership for ANSTO,” Dr Paterson said.

“I have enjoyed a great working relationship with Professor Greenfield and I am confident the legacy Dr Switkowski leaves will be carried on to ensure ANSTO is able to achieve its goals and solve some of the biggest challenges facing our society.”
