Today, Klaus-Dieter Liss starts a one-year Japan Atomic Energy Agency fellowship, based in Tokai Japan.
Klaus-Dieter is an expert in the use of high-energy X-rays and neutrons, both of which are penetrating enough for materials-science studies of engineering materials like steel, aluminium alloys and more sophisticated high-performance alloys and composites.
He is particularly interested in the thermal and mechanical processes used to make such materials, and the use of neutrons and X-rays to understand what is going on at the microscopic level, during thermo-mechanical processing.
