ANSTO staff geared up to join over 50,000 cyclists riding to work on Wednesday 15 October as part of the annual Ride2Work Day. Due to bad weather, however, the ride has been postponed to Wednesday 29 October.
Ride2Work Day is a national program that encourages people who have never ridden to work before to give it a go. It’s also a day to recognise regular cyclists and support them to stay motivated.
Dr Nick Hauser, coordinator of ANSTO’s cycling club, says “cycling to work gives you a 3-for-1 advantage: get fit, save time, save money.
“You turn your unproductive time of sitting behind the wheel into productive time.”
ANSTO’s Lucas Heights facility provides the perfect environment and location to ride to work. Riders can come via road or trail. Showers and change facilities are provided at the Gym and in many of the buildings on campus.
For those with further to travel bike parking areas are available at Sutherland & Padstow Station.
“If you have a change of heart, or there’s a change in the weather, you can jump on the bus instead,” Says Dr Hauser.
