The 2014 Operation Art exhibition of more than 700 artworks by NSW school children was officially opened in early September, with General Manager, Government, International and External Relations, Nadia Levin, presenting the ANSTO Junior Award to Sarah Pasagic from Mount Lewis Infants School.
ANSTO is a proud supporter of Operation Art – an initiative that brings artworks created by NSW school children to kids in hospitals around the state. It’s an important partnership for ANSTO, given that we produce more than 85 percent of Australia’s nuclear medicines. On average, one in two Australians will require nuclear medicine during their lifetime, including many of the children undergoing treatment at Westmead Children’s Hospital.
More than 700 artworks are submitted every year and exhibited before 50 are chosen for a touring exhibition, which is shown at the Art Gallery of NSW and regional galleries for a year. At each of these galleries specialist visual art workshops are available for students and teachers. The artworks are then returned to the hospital, where they become part of its permanent collection.
Operation Art is an initiative of The Children’s Hospital at Westmead and the Department of Education and Communities. More information can be found on the Children's Hospital website.
