Over 60 students have been awarded  for their outstanding aptitude and interest in science by one of Australia’s largest scientific organisations – ANSTO.

Students ranging from 7 – 18 years across NSW were awarded the ANSTO School Science Medal this month as part of their end of year school Awards Ceremony.

“The ANSTO School Science Medal helps school principles to reward students from their school for their efforts in science or science related subjects,” said Rod Dowler, head of the ANSTO Discovery Centre based in Sydney’s south.

“ANSTO is deeply committed to fostering an enthusiasm and interest for science amongst young Australians and this medal helps teachers to applaud those students who are pursuing an interest in science.

“We hope this recognition, supported by one of Australia’s largest public research organisations, encourages younger Australians  to go on to continue their interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) subjects ,” Mr Dowler said.

ANSTO’s Discovery Centre runs regular tours for school groups and individuals throughout the year.  All tours are led by experienced science educators who explain how modern researchers are using nuclear science techniques to help address issues relating to health, to better understand our environment and to support Australian industries with innovation.
