Today, the Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency has given approval for us to commence user operations on the new EMU back-scattering spectrometer. This brings the number of operating neutron beam instruments at OPAL up to thirteen. EMU is the fourth spectrometer after TAIPAN, SIKA and PELICAN, and it extends to the best energy-transfer resolution available at OPAL.
Congratulations to the EMU instrument scientists: Nicolas de Souza, Alice Klapproth and Gail Iles and the team of engineers and technicians who have designed, installed and commissioned EMU. EMU will commence the first user experiments which were allocated in the 2016-2 proposal round in the 2nd half of 2016.
