Preserving our heritage: where science and art collide

Associate Professor Robyn Sloggett, who is Director and Chief Conservator at the Centre for Cultural Materials Conservation in the University of Melbourne, says cultural material is the basis of the record of what it means to be human – and sciences are critical in preserving this record.

Associate Professor Sloggett will discuss how particular challenges confront the conservation of cultural material and that traditional standards used in Europe and North America are not always appropriate in the Asian-Pacific region. She will also discuss how science is used to authenticate priceless objects.
