Highlights from the ICRS -10 Conference
The International Conference on Residual Stress (ICRS-10) was held in Sydney from 3rd to 7th of July 2016.
ICRS-10 focuses on the prediction, evaluation, and control of residual stresses in materials. Equal emphasis was given to the measurement, modelling, and application of residual-stress data. The conference definitely delivered on inspiring keynotes and invited talks, as well as stimulating, structured discussions after the presentations.
Nearly 200 scientist and engineers from industry and academia attended the event. 186 papers were presented as oral and poster presentations. Of these over 20 included data collected on the KOWARI Strain Scanner, which is a great success for the KOWARI Team.
ACNS, as a whole, was well represented with presentations from Floriana Salvemini, Scott Olsen, Vladimir Luzin (the most productive scientist of the conference with 13 collaborative papers presented), Mark Reid, and Anna Paradowska. Additionally, ANSTO-AINSE-UNSW undergraduate student, Kaan Sozen, received a special recognition in the students’ paper competition for his presentation “Residual Stress Measurements in Vintage LPG Pressure Vessel Welds”.
The conference finished with a tour of ANSTO facilities and prompt discussion about future collaborations.
The next ICRS-11 will in be held in 2020 in France.
