Introducing ANSTO's sign of the times

More than 11,000 people do a tour of ANSTO each year – but still some of the questions we are most asked are “what do you do” and “what’s happening there at the moment”.

Well those questions will be a whole lot easier to answer from next week, after ANSTO completes electronic information signage at the entrance to the Lucas Heights campus.

Once finished and operational, the sign will feature up-to-date information on ANSTO tours and workshops, the current weather and the type of work ANSTO undertakes.

“ANSTO works hard to keep people informed about our research and achievements, as well as to demystify the everyday applications of nuclear medicine,” said ANSTO’s Nadia Levin.

“The sign can be refreshed daily, enabling us to keep our local community informed and up to date on the wide variety of work undertaken at ANSTO, as well as when they can book for our very popular school holiday science workshops.

“Every day ANSTO is involved in projects as diverse as helping the minerals industry; to understanding how air pollution travels across the continent; to working on treatments for Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease; and delivering nuclear medicines across Australia.

“Redeveloping our entrance sign is a practical way we can make people aware of the important work we do, and how they can find out more and get involved by doing a tour.”

Construction is due to be completed next week, weather depending. A former welcome sign was re-skinned in order to minimise costs.
