Prof Ian Hickie
Distinguished Australian clinical psychiatrist and well-known mental health reformer Prof Ian Hickie will be addressing International challenges in brain and mind sciences.

In this lecture, Prof Hickie will talk about how new technologies will deliver new answers to old questions at a special event  to be held the Brain and Mind Research Institute in Camperdown on 12 May.

Some of the latest technologies, such as structural and functional neuroimaging, immune markers and circadian measurements, are the subject of Prof Hickie’s clinical research. These technologies have the potential to determine the causes of depressive disorders from genetic and environmental factors.

Prof Hickie also promotes the use of evidence based innovations in healthcare, including e-health interventions to prevent the onset of depression and e-health tools for clinical practice.

As the Executive Director of the University of Sydney’s Brain and Mind Research Institute and a National Mental Health Commissioner, Prof Hickie is a leading voice on mental health issues with a particular interest in the mental health of young people. He was the inaugural CEO of the national depressive initiative, beyondblue and has contributed to more than 490 academic publications on the neurosciences and mental health.

The event is supported by the Brain and Mind Research Institute, ANSTO, the National Imaging Facility Research Cyclotron, the Australian Institute of Physics, the Royal Australian Chemical Institute and the Royal Society of NSW
