Antimatter is probably best known in science fiction as the source of endless power for spaceships, including the star ship Enterprise on the Star Trek television series and movies.
However, it is a real scientific phenomenon that is mentioned in the theories of Einstein. Now it is used every day in medicine for brain scans and has other potential applications for the treatment of cancer and other diseases.
The speaker is one of the world’s foremost experts on this subject, Dr Michael Doser, a Senior Physicist from CERN in Switzerland. CERN is best known as the home of the Large Hadron Collider, the centrepiece of the world’s largest physics experiment, and as the organisation that developed the World Wide Web.
