First CG-2 Guide components have arrived

The first and most crucial guide components manufactured by SwissNeutronics for the new CG-2 split cold-neutron guide arrived at ANSTO today.

These components, consisting of supermirror-coated glass, are inserted into the upstream plug closest to the cold source (shown left, with the monolithic glass guide assembly to right), and into the rotating shutter (not shown).

CG-2A which will serve the new BILBY time-of-flight SANS instrument is in the upper centre, with CG-2B below it.  New guide sections for CG-1 (which serves QUOKKA and PELICAN) and CG-3 (which serves PLATYPUS, KOOKABURRA and EMU) are to the right and left respectively, viewed from the cold-source end.

These components will be installed during the long OPAL shutdown commencing on November 5th, and will double the number of cold end-guide positions at OPAL.
