The Program Advisory Committee, chaired by A/Prof Tracy Rushmer (Macquarie University), met in late November to assess the scientific merit of beam-time and deuteration proposals submitted for time between January and June 2017.
209 cold- and thermal-neutron experiments (along with proposals to the National Deuteration Facility) were recommended for approval, with beam time allocations as follows: 70 days on ECHIDNA, 53 on WOMBAT, 89 on KOALA, 81 on KOWARI, 84 on TAIPAN, 78 on PLATYPUS, 85 on QUOKKA, 81 on DINGO, 88 on PELICAN, 63 on KOOKABURRA, 84 on BILBY, and 61 on EMU. 66 days of non-Taiwan beam time on SIKA were awarded. The variation is primarily due to time set aside for proprietary work, pre-approved programs of research from previous proposal rounds and time set aside for the mail-in service on ECHIDNA.
