Nuclear tools for climate science

The many benefits of nuclear technology are historically misunderstood with few knowing its role in climate change outside the carbon reduction benefits offered by nuclear power.

In two weeks time ANSTO’s Professor John Dodson will speak at The Palamedia Sustainability Exchange to outline the environmental and climate variability uses of nuclear in the field.

“At ANSTO nuclear tools are used to address many environment issues like climate variability, water resource sustainability and air pollution,” Professor Dodson said.

“ANSTO’s nuclear science facilities and expertise offer Australian researchers invaluable tools in understanding past, present and future climates.”

“For example, dating ground water, stalagmites and ice cores tell us about water age, rainfall levels and methane sources from the past to help us better understand future patterns by improving climate models.”
